I managed to connect my USB printer (and tested ok) through the E3200 router using the Cisco Connect programme on Windows 7. I note that there was an option for a USB Printer connection in the set-up screen. When I tried it on the Mac using Mac OSX 10.7.3 and Cisco Connect Ver 1.4, I noted that there was no option for a USB Printer connection.

Linksys Wireless Router:: Set Up USB Printer On E4200 In Linux? Aug 9, 2012 I just got a new E4200 v2 wireless router. I'm intrigued by the USB port, especially for using it to connect a printer. I currently have a D-Link wireless print server that I'm using to create a network-attached printer, but if I could remove an extra device and just have the printer connected straight to the router Similar Messages:.
ADVERTISEMENT Oct 18, 2011 Since firmware 1.0.02, E4200 supports connect printers to USB port and print to it from Windows using CiscoConnect. Is there any way to print from Linux (using CUPS, LPD, etc)? Jul 6, 2012 When I try to connect OpenVPN through an E4200 v2 router from my Linux Fedora 16 client, the connection hangs. The connection log show that OpenVPN has connected to the VPN server.
Internet also freezes until I disconnect OpenVPN. OpenVPN on Windows works fine through the E4200 router. If I connect the Linux client directly to my Inteno fiber router, OpenVPN works fine.Passthrough is enabled in the router, and I have configured QoS and port forwarding for port 1194. The router has firmware version 2.0.37.
Sep 25, 2011 I've got threeLinux Boxes (running Centos 6). They were all connected to my cheap WRT54GL- DHCP worked every time.Absolutely no problems. Both the LInux boxes and the WRT54GL had MTU set to manual, 1492.I replaced the WRTt54GL with the expensive E4200. I set the new router's MTU to manual, 1492. NONE of my Linux boxes ever receive a DHCP address. I look at the logs, and they do DHCPDISCOVER, get DHCPNACK, try several different intervals, and then fail the interface and quit.ALL I did was unhook cables from the WRT54GL and plug into the E4200. Yes, the WRT54GL was powered off.
NOTHING was changed in the Linux configs. Yes, DHCP is enabled, address-range assigned, etc. BTW- one box is dual boot with Win7- in Win7 (using the same card, obviously), DHCP works just fine.
But, Linux doesn't work. I can give the boxes static IP's, and all is well.
Just can't get DHCP to work. I evfen tried putting in DHCP reservations (via MAC assignments) for the E4200- still doesn't work. The new E4200 is on the 02 firmware (which I believe is cuurent). If I can't iron this simple task out, in a couple of days I'm taking the E4200 back, and getting a refund. I'll stay with my old WRT54GL. Hate to give up on some of the new E4200 features, though.
Apr 11, 2011 I think I have worked out that you can`t currently connect a usb printer to the usb port on the e4200 in order to share it over the network. However I have heard reports that this might facility might be enabled in the spring. I have also heard something about `virtual usb` but I don`t know whether this has anything to do with it. Oct 10, 2011 Is it possible to share a usb printer over a network if I use the E3200 or E4200 router as an acces point? (I already have a router and will use the cisco as an access point only) I checked the documentation for 'cisco connect' as best I could but I couldn't figure it out. Jun 21, 2011 The latest Firmware for the E4200 states that there is now the ability to attach a printer to the USB port of the router.
I am using a Mac, so that may be the problem, but I have followed the instructions on how to add the printer and it is not happening. It's possible that the MAC Firmware was not given the ability to add a USB printer like the PC Firmware upgrade. Nov 17, 2011 The Guest Access is a very nice feature for allowing us to provide Internet access in our rental unit.
However, it would be nice to provide the Guests access to the USB printer. Is there a way to provide access to the USB printer for those who are logged into the 'Guest Network'?
Oct 5, 2011 As subject Apr 2, 2012 My issue is sharing a printer across my main Network and the wireless one, the description of the setting: I have my main Network 10.1.1.0/24 (RV082) and I hooked the wireless router E4200 at an IP 10.1.1.82 and the wireless network is 192.168.1.0/24 I setup a printer/scanner with an IP 192.168.1.72 for sharing on both Networks. Now everyone on 192.168.1.0 network is able to access and print but none on 10.1.1.0 I did put a static route on the RV082 to direct the requests for the printer to be redirected to 10.1.1.82 but no success. The E4200 is setup by default out of the box I had just to set the static IP, Gateway and DNS and of course the wireless security key nothing else.
The NAT is enabled on the E4200 and RIP is disabled, I tested the connection by disabling NAT and enabling RIP, at which I was able to connect to the printer but the Internet went down for All Wireless users (192.168.1.0 network) Jan 19, 2013 I have been successfully printing to my HP 8250 printer USB connected to my e4200 router for nearly a year from my xp ethernet pc and 2 windows 7 wireless laptops. Today nothing could print to it and when I deleted and tried to reinstall using cisco connect it tells me I am trying to connect an unsupported device both on ethernet XP PC and wireless windows 7 laptop. I have installed no new software or drivers this year. I have had to regress to attaching the printer back to the XP PC and sharing it which obviously means the PC now needs to be switched on to print. Mar 7, 2012 Just fired up an e4200 router and was realy easy and everything working great HOWEVER I can a Canon MP490 printer that I have connected to the router via USB and Cisco Connect is only showing Wireless Printers as a connection option!! I am on a MAC using OS X 10.7, have Cisco Connect Version 1.4 (12005.2) and the firmware updated today.
Dec 28, 2011 E4200 - Can I use a USB hub to connect NAS and a USB printer to the single USB port? Apr 2, 2013 I have had the E4200 for a while with a Brother MFC-J615W printer.
I have been having problems keeping the connection between my laptop(HP) and the printer ever since I switched to this router. The only thing that works is completely reinstalling the driver, and then it is touchy when searching the network for the printer. The port and IP address for my printer match, and when I tried pinging my printer, I do not have any success. My laptop registers the printer as offline, as does the router when I go into the devices on the router(via mylocalrouter). To spot check the issue, I have switched the router back to my old one(Belkin) and the printer works flawlessly.
I have always been able to connect the printer to the network without any problems, but my laptop and router dont recognize it. Jul 23, 2011 I have managed to install a printer on my computer using the USB port on the E4200 router.I'm just wondering is it now possible to install this printer on other computers / laptops.I'm not really sure how the printer is assigned. Is there some network share I can connect to?
Jul 28, 2011 I was excited to learn that USB printer support was added to the E4200. I'm disappointed to find that the USB printer option that is available in firmware version 1.0.02 requires Cisco Connect software.
There is no version of Cisco Connect for Linux. I was hoping that this would allow the printer to be shared among my Win7 desktop, Win7 laptop, and my Linux desktop running Ubuntu 10.10. No such luck.
WIth the printer connected to the router I can print with any one computer. My previous configuration had the printer connected to my WIn7 desktop so that desktop had to be turned-on to print. The bottom line is that I still can't print from the Linux box without turning on the desktop machine. Cisco please provide a way to connect to the printer without using the Connect software! Or provide a java version that can be run on any OS. May 8, 2012 I have a E4200 router and I was using it with a 1st generation MacBook Air for internet and also had my Samsung laser printer hooked up (USB) for wireless printing. It worked perfectly.
Now I have upgraded to a new MacBook Air. The internet connection works fine, but printing won't work.
Same printer. Same connections. Do I need to refresh/reboot something? My new Mac has the printer driver. I get a message 'printer if offline' 'printer is not connected' -I feel like the router now does not recognize the new Mac's command to print. The older macbook air still works and prints wirelessly. The new one does not.
Mar 17, 2011 I have an HP laser printer (network printer) plugged into one of the ethernet ports of the E4200. I am able to print and communicate with the printer (via the built-in web interface) for the first few hours after the printer is powered on. After a day or so, however, (when the printer has gone into sleep/power-save mode) I can no longer print or attach to it - it is seen as being offline. The only way around this is to power the printer off and on again.I never had this problem with the E3000 or the (non-Cisco) router before that.
I do not see any settings that would cause this to happen. Jun 13, 2011 I recently bought a new Windows 7 system and a Cisco E4200 router. Previously, I had an old Linksys WRT54GS router with an HP 1022NW connected to the network. The HP printer has worked flawlessly all these years and did not even hiccup when Windows 7 came into play.
But as soon as I changed out my router, the trouble started. I cannot for the life of me get these two devices to connect. Is the HP1022NW even compatible with the E4200 router when using wireless connections? I know you are supposed to match the settings, but the encryption types are different For example, the default router settings are mixed WPA/WPA2.
Previously I had WPA-PSK, which is not an option on this new router. I have followed every instruction I can find in manuals and online to get the wireless connection working, but it either fails the installation, or it latches onto my neighbor's wireless signal, which is not nearly as strong as mine. I believe he has his router set to WEP, which seems to point to the encryption question above. Short of connecting this as a hard wired printer, is there any chance I can get this to work? I have tried resetting it to factory conditions and even that does not work. Nov 12, 2011 I have a Canon LBP2900 printer. I have connected the printer with my desktop PC running windows xp and shared it.
I have Ubuntu in my laptop and connected to the local network. Is there any easy way to print from ubuntu? Jan 28, 2012 is it possibe to set up a ubuntu linux PC on a linksys wireless router?
Linksys says 'no'. Also where would I get the printer, wireless card, and sound drivers. It's a dell latitude running a pentium m (yeah, i know).
Jan 11, 2012 I'm a Linux user and just got a new Linksys E2000 router. I attached the router to the computer with the Ethernet cable, and switched the router on, expecting it to work as DHCP server by default, so I could access routers configuration and set it up as needed. This however failed right away. Obviously the router didn't start DHCP, even after I reset with the reset button on the back. Now there is no way to accesss the router to configure it, since web interface path relies on router's DHCP function to access it through 192.168.1.1 which is not working. What can be done to enable it?
Jul 15, 2011 I set up my new Linksys E3200 via hardwired Win XP box on small home network that uses a dsl line. I attached a Seagate Expansion 2TB usb hd to the router.
After rebooting into Debian Linux via dual boot setup, I have a working internet connection but am unable to find the attached usb hard drive. What can I do to make it visible to this and other, linux systems? Dec 6, 2011 I'm a Linux user and just got a new Linksys E2000 router. What can be done to enable it? Dec 10, 2012 I noticed a bug with the EA4500 (could possibly be all EA series) router that linux machines cannot see network share with the smart firmware.
Just right after I upgrade to the smart firmware, all my linux machines cannot see any network shares at all. I downgrade to the classic firmware, every thing works like a charm. Jul 7, 2011 I recently purchased a Cisco-Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router from Amazon. The specs indicate it's Linux based: URL I checked other sites, and found the same claim: URL and URL,But, to my dismay, when I was configuring and viewing the logs of the device.
Nov 17, 2012 I have a Cisco/Linksys E2500 router. I connected to it through one of the Ethernet ports with a Microsoft Windows XP Pro machine and installed and ran the setup software. Windows was able to connect to the router and to the internet through the Siemens Gigaset 4300 DSL modem to my internet provider, Windstream.I cannot get my Dell GX620 which is running Linux Debian 6 (Squeeze) to connect to the router through the Ethernet ports. It appears that I receive no reply to the DHCP requests made by Linux. I have only one monitor, keyboard and mouse and no KVM switch to run both the machines at once. I do have Windows XP Pro running in a VirtualBox virtual machine on the Debian machine,I can configure Debian to a static IP if I knew all of the IP configuration that the E2500 would assign. I would also need to know what reconfiguration the router requires if I use a static IP. Aug 25, 2011 Model No.
WUSB54GCIs software available for use on Linux? Sep 11, 2011 I'm running Arch Linux on an Acer laptop and my wirless connection doesn't stay up. After a while it disconnects, and when I try to reconnect I get stuck with a 'Waiting for authorization' message. I have to retry several times before getting the connection stay up for few minutes.
This happens with both networkmanager and wicd. The strange thing is that the iMac that sits next to the laptop connects fine, and when I use my laptop within the university wireless network it works normally. I use a Netgear DGN1000 modem/router Apr 4, 2012 I have a recurring issue with my e4200v1. My wired and wireless connections work fine, but I can't get to the administration website. I have https only set up, and after I get thru the 'certificate error' screen, I get an error that says web page is unavailable. Firfefox tells me that the connection was lost - error 101.I have tried wired and wireless, multiple computers, multiple browsers. I even turned the firewall off on one computer (or I think I did anyway). The only way I know how to fix it is by completely resetting then setting up the router all over again.
Jul 27, 2011 Upgraded from WRT610N to E4200. Since upgrading to latest firmware the wan just disappears both 5 and 2.5 Ghz bands. Happened with older firmware but not as often.
Using it in briged mode. When this happens I can't even get to the management page with a lan connected pc. Have to do a hard reboot to get it to respond again.
This is unacceptable for a router at this price point. Jun 21, 2011 I had been using my printer through my linksys router with no problem until I added a password to the linksys. Now I can't print. My computer says it can't 'ping' the printer. Apr 1, 2012 I managed to connect my USB printer (and tested ok) through the E3200 router using the Cisco Connect programme on Windows 7.
I note that there was an option for a USB Printer connection in the set-up screen. When I tried it on the Mac using Mac OSX 10.7.3 and Cisco Connect Ver 1.4, I noted that there was no option for a USB Printer connection.
